Salary: Band 7 with Annex 21 applied

Year 1 of Training:£36,966

The new centre has the ability to deliver joined up diagnostic care, and with increased capacity ensures our patients have faster access to treatment, earlier diagnosis, and improved outcomes.

We are looking for a highly motivated, hard-working individual who is able to commit to an intense but highly rewarding training course. Applications are welcome from any healthcare professional with a 2:1 or above graduate qualification in their area of expertise.

Main duties of the job

In this post there is availability to undertake the clinical aspect of the Post Graduate Diploma in Medical Ultrasound, with the taught component and assessment being provided by the University of the West of England. Units to be studied include abdominal, small parts, gynaecological and vascular ultrasound to M level. Upon successful completion you will be a qualified Sonographer (Ultrasound Practitioner) with a nationally and internationally recognised CASE accredited post-graduate diploma.

The qualification is provided by a CASE (Consortium for the Accreditation of Sonographer Education) Accredited HEI and recognised by the Society of Radiographers and the British Medical Ultrasound Society.

You will be training within a friendly team of dedicated and hardworking Sonographers within the Ultrasound Department at Isle of Wight NHS Trust.

Our department is passionate at providing an effective and high quality service. We use state of the art ultrasound equipment currently all Canon Aplio i600 units. We have 3 dedicated ultrasound rooms and also undertake some portable scanning for inpatients using GE Venue ultrasound unit.

We provide ultrasound services for patients from primary care and acute secondary care and have a number of Sonographer led services including ?DVT and TIA.

The post holder is required to hold, or be able to apply for HCPC, NMC or GMC registration as a condition of employment.

Person Specification

Aptitudes

Essential

  • Must be able to demonstrate good technical knowledge and continue to develop it

Qualifications

Essential

  • HCPC or equivalent registration
  • An appropriate professional qualification such as those recognised by the Society of Radiographers e.g. BSc in Diagnostic Radiography or equivalent.
  • Evidence of continual professional development
  • Knowledge of non-clinical incident reporting
  • Knowledge of principles of clinical governance and risk assessment
  • Evidence of audit and R&D

Desirable

  • NHS experience
  • Ultrasound experience

Physical Skills

Essential

  • Be able to operate VDU equipment in both image acquisition and data management
  • Be able to operate manual handling aids, as provided by the department including patient slide boards, sheets, hoists and trolleys
  • Be able to operate and move full range of ultrasound equipment

Abilities

Essential

  • Must be able to work to short deadlines and have a flexible approach to workload

Communication Skills

Essential

  • To ensure good working relationships both between all staff within the Imaging Department and across multidisciplinary teams
  • Communicate complex and sensitive information with empathy and reassurance to a wide variety of patients
  • Possess good verbal and written English
  • Good team player with the ability to work alone with no supervision
