SPECIALIST HOSPITAL BOARDDIVISIONAL CLINICAL DIRECTOR - WOMEN'S HEALTH

5 PAs | 3-Year Fixed Term with an option to extend for 3 years

Applications are invited for this pivotal senior leadership role within the Specialist Hospital Board.

This is an exciting opportunity to lead and shape the future of women's health services within a high-performing and ambitious organisation.

Reporting to the Medical Director, the Divisional Clinical Director will provide strategic and clinical leadership across a broad portfolio including gynaecology, breast, maternity and neonatal services. The postholder will play a central role in driving forward the Trust's refreshed strategy, ensuring the continued delivery of high-quality, safe and innovative care for women and babies, while strengthening partnerships across the wider health system.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be an experienced and credible clinical leader, with a strong track record of service development and improvement. They will bring energy, vision and a collaborative approach, working closely with the Divisional Manager and multidisciplinary colleagues to deliver excellence in patient care and operational performance. A deep commitment to the Trust's values and to improving outcomes and experience for women and families is essential.

The appointment is for an initial period of three years, with potential for extension. The role comprises 5 Programmed Activities (PAs), with a job plan agreed in discussion with the Medical Director.

Person Specification

Knowledge & Qualifications

Essential

  • Appropriate clinical qualification or equivalent
  • Consultant grade or equivalent
  • Demonstrable understanding of current NHS, sector and Trust priorities and developments
  • Demonstrable understanding of clinical governance
  • Evidence of significant continuing professional development in medical management: it is expected that relevant managerial training will average at least 50% of annual CPD during the appointment

Experience

Essential

  • Demonstrable experience of leading service change initiatives
  • Demonstrable experience of leading Consultant medical staff
  • Demonstrable experience of effective multi-disciplinary working
  • Experience in a medical management role, e.g. as Divisional Clinical Director, Clinical Director, Head of Department, Clinical Leadi ncluding control of budgets, staff/line management, service planning and change

Desirable

  • Must work in or alongside the division
  • Evidence of Substantial influence within wider NHS or specialty beyond UCLH i.e. at regional or national level
