Job summary

We have a unique opportunity to widen your experience and clinical skill set working across a range of clinical areas including Critical Care, Major Trauma, Acute wards and Stroke in a rotational SLT post.

We are offering this fantastic development opportunity as part of a structured rotation programme including dedicated CPD time each month involving timetabled sessions as a group to facilitate directed and peer supported learning. In addition to this there will be on the job coaching and clinical supervision from our team of experienced, highly specialist SLTs working in each of these areas.

This post brings opportunity to contribute to service development, as well as developing your clinical and leadership skills.

You will be required to contribute to the weekend working rota supporting the acute stroke wards.

Main duties of the job

According to the rotation, details of the role differ but all involve clinical caseload management and provision of assessment and rehabilitation for patients with dysphagia and/or communication impairments.

There an emphasis on collaborative MDT working.

The role will include access to, and training in FEES and Videofluoroscopy and working with patients with tracheostomies.

There will be opportunities to be involved in and/or lead service development, quality improvement projects and/or research projects in each of the specialist clinical areas. This can be supported by the NCA's dedicated Quality Improvement Team and Clinical Research Centre.

The NCA have a designated team delivering leadership development training and all clinicians are encouraged to incorporate this into their learning and development.

You should have a degree in Speech and Language Therapy and be registered with the HCPC.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • HCPC registration
  • Degree in Speech & Language Therapy or recognised equivalent qualification
  • Post basic training in dysphagia. Working at level C/Proficient in RCSLT competencies.
  • Evidence of successful completion of relevant short courses
  • Clinical Educator Training

Desirable

  • MRCSLT
  • Training / Experience of videofluoroscopy
  • Training / Experience of FEES
  • Training / Experience of tracheostomy management

Knowledge

Essential

  • Minimum 2 years post qualification experience of working with adults with acquired neurological conditions
  • Experience of assessing and managing complex communication disorders, including AAC.
  • Proven organisational skills including time management, effective delegation and prioritisation and the ability to complete a task.
  • Ability to work with and motivate others within a team
  • Ability to work autonomously within a clinical area with senior support.
  • Flexible to meet the needs of the service
  • Able to travel between sites.
  • oPost qualification experience of working with a major trauma, stroke, acute or critical care caseload

Desirable

  • Teaching, Supervisory and Appraisal skills and experience
  • Experience working in NHS
