The MRI services at East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust serve and support communities across the Kent region. We are a large team MRI Radiographers and Radiographic assistants to support and deliver MRI service across East Kent region. Our operational sites include, three main hospital sites and newly formed CDC. Our hardworking and progressive MRI team work across four base sites including CDC sites. Community Diagnostic Centre at Buckland and proposed spoke model at Thanet Health Hub supports the NHS England vision of reforming diagnostic services provided to the local community. As a large acute Trust, we provide key services within the patient pathway, working hard as a team to continually deliver efficient and patient-centred services.
We are inviting applications from experienced, dynamic MRI Radiographers with leadership skill to offer the position of MRI superintendent Radiographer to work in a diverse MRI Radiographers team at East Kent Hospital University NHS Foundation Trust.
Main duties of the job
We are a busy, fast moving department with various skills and expertise. Service provides advanced imaging and support with modern technological challenges. The service currently houses 8 x 1.5T scanners and 2x 3T scanners of various make and models including mobile scanners, operated by external service providers. We are seeking an experienced MRI Radiographers with people skills, dynamic with proven leadership skills in managing a team of Radiographers and running MRI service independently.

A flexible approach to the working day is essential. The successful candidate will be a HCPC Registered Radiographer with a wealth of MRI experience, both clinically and organisationally. The post holder will be required to work independently, engage and involves in the training and carry out a wide range of complex duties, acting on their own initiative and using a wide range of professional, analytical and reasoning skills when judging a variety of complex clinical, staff, and operational problems leading and supervising a multi-disciplinary team, with responsibility for producing and maintaining policies, protocols and schemes of work.
Post holder will be responsible for day today operation at CDC MRI service at Buckland and Thanet and to provide safe patient care by ensuring all relevant trainings, governances process is followed in the department.
Post holder will be responsible for staff training for local team and any staff rotated within the service and working with Principal MRI Radiographer in line with trust KPIs. Also, also act as direct supervisor for all CDC staff members.
Post holder will work collaboratively with Superintendent MRI Radiographer colleagues at K&CH and QEQM to ensure all daily operational challenges are supported including staff management, appraisal etc.
The post holder is a section leader with a post graduate qualification/ equivalent experience and broad experience both in their speciality and other areas of Radiography. They are responsible for the delivery of a high-quality specialised service directing and supervising a multi-disciplinary team as well as maintaining their own skills.
The post holder is required to prioritise and co-ordinate the daily work load. As a part of this task they are required to liaise with staff from other disciplines and Directorates. In addition, they are required to produce, implement and maintain rotas, schemes of work and protocols. They act as the adviser to the Principal Radiographer on all matters appertaining to MRI
To have responsibility for the organisation, function and day-to-day management of the MRI Department. Specifically, to organise the workload, training and day to day operation and management of the MRI Department and to produce examinations of the highest quality. To liaise with other staff groups and departments within the Trust as required.
The post holder will be expected to act on their own initiative in making decisions concerning the operation of the service, unless these decisions have a significant impact on activities outside the post holder's immediate control.
To supervise, support and guide staff undertaking working in areas for which you are responsible and promote maintenance of an efficient, effective and high-quality service for all users.
To undertake all examinations as directed by Consultant Radiologists and Principal Radiographer MRI whilst assessing patient requirements and seeking guidance when necessary and to maintain high radiographic and professional standards. To actively teach this to other radiographers and staff.
Post holder will engage with the principal MRI Radiographers in governance process, department policies and procedure writing, reviewing and implement changes within the service.
To care for patients needs, attend to their welfare and ensure that you encourage and practice first time right imaging. Strive to achieve and promote quality in all aspects of the Radiology service incorporating clinical tutorials.
Undertakes autonomous practise taking responsibility for completing examinations without direct clinical consultation using knowledge, experience and requirement for accuracy.
Review MRI requests and make decisions about their appropriateness thus whether to proceed to scan.
As site modality superintendent Radiographer, post holder will advise the Principal Radiographer and Head of the service of issues appertaining to the delivery of service and any changes which impact across the imaging service.
To develop, maintain and implement protocols and schemes of work.
To actively plan and organise complex activities such as staff rotas, meetings and appointments (Radiology/Trust wide) and introduction of new systems of work.
Authorised financial signatory for the MRI department but not budget holder.
When required answer verbal or written complaints appertaining to MRI imaging.
Post holder will be responsible for leading the changes with the service and work collaboratively with Principal MRI Radiographer for transformation within service. Carry out department risk assessments and delegate roles to the team members and ensure process within the service is not delayed or breached.
In accordance with the Health Act (2006) all staff are expected to comply with National and Local Infection Control policies and procedures and any other related infection prevention policies or procedures. In addition, all staff whose normal duties are directly or indirectly concerned with patient care should ensure they have received annual mandatory training (including hand hygiene)
To ensure safety of self, staff and patients/visitors within the vicinity of the MRI department in accordance with appropriate regulations and code of practise.
To be aware of the confidential nature of the work and maintain strictest confidence when dealing with patients, staff and other Health Service business information in accordance with both Trust Policy and the Data Protection Act.
To adhere to, apply and promote all relevant Health and Safety regulations and Risk Management procedures and to report to the appropriate line manager related issues, acting in their place as required.
