Job summary
The Ear, Nose & Throat Department is expanding to meet the needs of the population of East Kent. We are looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic Head & Neck/ENT Surgeon to join a team of 11 Ear, Nose & Throat Surgeons. The Trust is going through a period of redevelopment, having attracted national investment to deliver a critical care hub for Kent and Medway. A new 24-bed Intensive Care Unit has been built at the Willian Harvey Hospital, to include bespoke training facilities, including dedicated space for in-situ simulation training. The William Harvey site is also the Trauma centre for East Kent. Robotic Head & Neck surgery is offered through the Kent and Canterbury site which is also the vascular centre for Kent & Medway.
Main duties of the job
The post-holder will be responsible for the delivery of high quality Ear, Nose & Throat patient services, including elective and emergency surgeries, outpatient, day-case and inpatient management. The Consultant will be responsible for prioritising patient lists for outpatient appointments and admissions within the nationally defined targets.

Job responsibilities
The post holder will support the Rhinology service and as part of the Rhinology team deliver a secondary referral Rhinology practice.As the post holder, you will provide (alongside consultant colleagues) a Rhinology service, with responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness and promotion of health.The successful applicant will have continued responsibility for the care of patients in your charge in liaison with consultant colleagues and for the proper functioning of the department in line with the Operational Policy and Strategic Plan (as amended from time to time).As a Consultant, you will be responsible for the professional supervision and management of junior medical staff. If appropriate the post holder will be named in the contracts of junior staff as the person responsible for overseeing their training and as an initial source of advice to such doctors regarding their careers.Will be required to participate in continuing medical education in ways which are acceptable to the Chief Executive. The EKHUFT supports the requirements for continuing professional development and is committed to providing time and financial support for these activities in line with the EKHUFT Policy.Will be required to participate in and contribute to Clinical Audit in line with the Health Boards policy on the implementation of Clinical Governance.The successful candidate will participate in a 1 in 11 consultant of the week rota to cover East Kent Hospitals. The on-call week is from Monday 8am to Monday 8am inclusive of Weekend working.A proportion of clinical activities remain and should be completed during the on-call week.During the on-call week, Consultant of the week undertakes daily ward rounds, supervision of ENT emergency clinics, Advice & Guidance referrals, emergency theatres, junior staff teaching and patient administration.You will be required to cover for consultant colleagues' periods of leave.

Essential
- Full GMC Registration with Licence to Practice
- Eligible for entry onto the GMC Specialist Register or CCT within 6 months of interview
- FRCS ORL-HNS
- Rhinology fellowship

- Other additional post CCT training or experience
Skills and experience
Essential
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Evidence of the ability to communicate with patients, colleagues and staff at all levels
- Broad experience in the management of ENT elective surgery and emergency care
- Experience of anterior skull base / comprehensive frontal sinus surgery
- Experience of working in a multidisciplinary environment

- Special interest that complements the Department

- Willingness to undertake additional professional responsibilities at local, regional or national levels
- Experience in working in MDT teams clinics such as lacrimal, vasculitis, and airway allergy
